4 BOOKS YOU MUST READ TO CRACK HAS

Books are important for any examination but they are necessary for a competitive examination like HPAS/HAS. Using YouTube and blogs like ours, you can get clear information on multiple subjects but a blogpost or a YouTube video cannot go in depth required for Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service. A book however can dedicate multiple pages on a single topic and provide in depth information.

So following are MUST READ books that will be extremely important in your preparation.

Himachal Pradesh:

Jag Mohan Balokhra's The Wonderland Himachal Pradesh General Knowledge An Encyclopedia : This book doesn’t even need an introduction. If you are looking for a book that will cover everything about Himachal Pradesh you should get this one. When I say this book covers everything I mean everything, history, art, architecture, people, geography, river system, economics, environment etc will be discussed and in great detail. It is THE book to use for your preparations.

Modern History:

Spectrum's A Brief History of Modern India: This is a relatively small book when compared to others but it does not lack in material. Spectrum covers the modern history of India i.e. from 1857 to 1947. It is a great book which focuses on important details from Indian History. This book seems to be designed specially for competitive examination and thus will be perfect for your preparations.

Indian Polity:

Indian Polity by Laxmikanth: An extremely helpful book for anyone who wants to learn about our polity. This book covers everything from the creation of constitution,  the structure of our institutions to the different acts and amendments. Laxmikanth is important for not only HPAS, but also for your UPSC preparation.

Geography:

G.C. Leong's Certificate Physical And Human Geography; Indian Edition- Another short book but also full of substance. It is a very good book if you want to clear your basics about geography. This only covers geography in general and will not be useful if you are looking for a book specific to Himachal Pradesh. However, if you want to prepare geography for HAS or UPSC this book will be very helpful. This book is a must have if you have elected geography as an optional subject.

Thousands of temples and religious places are there in Himachal, some of which have been built time immemorial. The roof extends over the covered ‘ veranda ’ which serves the purpose of ‘Pradakshina’ round the shrine. An interesting feature very specific to these hill temples is the peculiar arrangement of wood and stone in
